Überblick : 1451: Nach dem Tod seines Vaters besteigt der 18-jährige Mehmed II. den Thron und wird Sultan des Osmanischen Reiches. Der junge Herrscher wird von seinen Feinden als unerfahren und schwach eingeschätzt. So auch vom oströmischen Kaiser Konstantin, dessen stolze Hauptstadt Konstantinopel mit ihren gigantischen Mauern als uneinnehmbar gilt. Mehmed jedoch will das Werk seines Vaters vollenden, ein Weltreich zu erschaffen. Dazu muss er Konstantinopel erobern. Er stellt eine riesige Armee auf und lässt Kriegsschiffe bauen. Sein Jugendfreund Hasan verliebt sich derweil in die selbstbewusste und schöne Era, deren Vater früher der beste Kanonenbauer des oströmischen Reiches war. Nur er kann eine Kanone mit noch nie erreichter Feuerkraft entwickeln, um die Mauern Konstantinopels zu bezwingen. Im Frühjahr 1453 marschiert das gigantische türkische Heer vor die Tore der Stadt. Während die Belagerung in vollem Gange ist, ruft Konstantin seine europäischen Verbündeten und den Vatikan zu Hilfe…
