Überblick : Zweiter Weltkrieg, 1940: In der Luftschlacht über Norwegen schießen sich englische und deutsche Piloten gegenseitig ab. Nach einer harten Notlandung in der Einöde Norwegens suchen die Überlebenden beider Parteien- Leutnant Horst Schopis, Unteroffizier Josef Schwarz und Feldwebel Wolfgang Strunk auf Seiten der Deutschen, sowie Gunner Robert Smith und Captain Charles P. Davenport auf Seiten der Briten- Schutz gegen die Kälte und finden diesen in einer verlassenen Berghütte. Leider flüchten sie zufällig in dieselbe Hütte und so müssen die Kriegsgegner miteinander auskommen, um den harten norwegischen Winter zu überleben. Das stürmische Wetter macht ein Umherirren draußen unmöglich, zu groß sind die zu überwindenden Entfernungen, um wieder zurück in die Zivilisation zu gelangen. Voneinander abhängig müssen sich die Feinde auf eine lange und ungewollte Freundschaft einlassen.
